13 Oct 2026

On October 9, 2026, a guest speaker session focusing on Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1): No Poverty, one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, was held as part of the GLB 101 course at Abdullah Gül University (AGU). The session featured Dr. Ali Ercan Özgür, co-founder of IDEMA, İhtiyaç Haritası, İNOGAR Cooperative, and SOS Chain.

During the session, attended by first-year students from all academic departments at AGU, Dr. Özgür shared his academic and professional experience in local development, civil society, social entrepreneurship, sustainable cities, and civic engagement. He highlighted the importance of combating poverty, identifying community needs, and developing initiatives that create positive social impact.

The session explored the different dimensions of poverty and the role of non-governmental organizations and social enterprises in developing solutions to address community needs. Students had the opportunity to connect the Sustainable Development Goals with real-world experiences and reflect on the responsibilities of individuals, civil society organizations, and social enterprises in tackling poverty.

At AGU, the GLB courses are designed to help students from all academic departments develop throughout their university education by taking at least five different GLB courses. These courses aim to raise awareness of global challenges, foster interdisciplinary thinking, and encourage students to develop solutions that contribute to a more sustainable future.
